[vpnc-devel] vpnc does not realise that it lost connection to vpn-server

Hello!

I use vpnc via kvpnc. Sometimes it seems that the connection is interrupted,
as no data can be transported. The latter is known as an issue that might be
related to re-keying.
Could it not simply be that vpnc lost the connection to the vpn-server? I know
that the cisco-client, from time to time, does loose connection and quits
with a message: remote peer no longer responsing, or something similar.
vpnc does not even quit, if I unplug the cable.

As I am not familiar with vpn-servers, it might be the case that pulling the
cable does not mean anything regarding the vpn-connection.
However, if the cisco-client quits from time to time because of loosing
connection to the vpn-server and vpnc never does, yet sometimes cannot
transport any data anymore, the latter might be due to the same reason the
cisco-client quits.

If so, it would be useful that vpnc issues some notification too, in order for
the connection to be re-initiated. Since vpnc never seems to quit, kvpnc e.g.
cannot implement any feature that automatically re-connects, if the
connection is lost.

Sven
